September 17th, 2024 – In this current season of 10-20 political emails PER DAY, I extra-appreciate your opening my humble email! I will try to make it valuable, and for only a $7 donation you can help me win!! 😉
Speaking of opening your email…
Current musings:
Picture this: you’re starting your day at your desk, and it’s time to check your email. Your tummy is nervous. You don’t want to! You’re scared of the “inbox beast” waiting to overwhelm you!!
But, you’re a grownup so you take a deep breath, and then you open it.
What??? Lookie lookie!! It has a reasonable number of emails in there, and you can literally count on one hand the ones you actually need to deal with! You know you will seamlessly triage that inbox following your own personalized system, and voila!
No more monsters in your inbox…or at least only little baby ones that you can handle with ease.
I used to be that scared to open my overflowing email inbox (so I wouldn’t for long periods of time!)
And yes, I missed a lot of stuff. I dropped a ton of balls. I missed a boatload of opportunities. It was the worst. I let myself down all the time! It was NOT FUN!
But guess what?
When I open my email now, while I don’t LOVE it, legitimately, it doesn’t make me feel like a failure any more. I’m more or less on it. I have a simple system that I’ve pieced together and honed over the years.
THIS IS HUGE FOR ME.
When you go in your laundry room and there’s dirty laundry to do, do you tell yourself you’re a failure because there’s dirty clothing and towels in there??
Gosh, I sure hope not. That would be a brutal and pointless self-flagellation!
Laundry happens. And we deal with it, over and over.

Guess what? So does email. And that is okay, friend!
Emails HAPPEN. And continue to happen. It’s just the way, like ocean waves.
The secret is this: to pare down your inbox to be able to SEE WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN THERE. To be able to note what needs action, and then put it in a virtual “pile” to be done.
And, it’s about setting aside the time to get in there. It’s not going to manage itself, unfortunately!
Please join us every Thursday at noon for Digital Decluttering With Friends. It’s a free workshop where we band together to fight against the endless tide of digital clutter, mostly in the form of emails.
We have been offering free support during this time slot for years and we are glad to do it because no one should have to face it all alone, right? Oh, and the replays are available in the CALM Collaborative Facebook Group…always!
See you Thursday!

YES! I’m so in!
Wait! I need even MORE accountability!
PS no cats were harmed in the making of that gif!
