How CALM can you make your calendar this fall?

Helllloooooo, empty house!!! Wooohooooo!!!! I’m reminded of that first time during Covid when all my family finally left me at home alone!! (so I made this enthusiastic TikTok, of course! ←enjoy)

Current musings:

August 13, 2024 – With summer closing down and fall gearing up, I’m all in for the change of the season and getting super excited for what that will bring. In fact, I’m inviting the energy for a reset of the house and my schedule that doesn’t involve constant distraction from my college sons! Here’s hoping! 

Since you can’t do EVERYTHING, (but you CAN do ANYTHING!), you must select a few timely projects you want to place on your radar. It’s a bit like the hottest dance club in town…everyone wants in all at once, but that would overwhelm the bartenders and be a real mess! So, be your own bouncer and only let the best and brightest in for this coming season. This includes any habits you want to form as well.

For me, I want to eat more salads at home and I have noticed that if I chop up a bunch of ingredients on Sunday and keep them in clear containers, then I’m much more likely to make salads with those ingredients. So I’m hoping to establish “Salad Bar Sunday” as a habit that will serve me all week! Literally!!

I also want to learn to cook some more exciting foods, but that might not make it to my plate this fall (pun intended!)…that might overwhelm my energy or literal time. That will need to wait.

“C is for Confirm your Calendar”

In order to properly wrangle your time this fall, your best friend is going to be your CALENDAR! It’s your placeholder, your second brain, your framework for your life.

Back in 2020-1, when I had allllll kinds of time for writing (sighhhh, I miss that), I self-published a book called The CALM Method: A Guide to Ditch Last Minute Living in which I taught my readers the power habit of “Confirm your calendar” as Step 1. It’s a must. It’s the foundation for your day, week, month, even your year!

Every week, I write out a list of things I need to confirm. You would be shocked to realize how easy it is to confirm, but so painful when you don’t!! Your life is a moving target, so you have to keep checking back on the times, locations…all the deets or you’ll be stressed going to the wrong place…or showing up at the wrong time.

I remember taking my newborn to the pediatrician for his first checkup, (back when just getting dressed and out the door was a giant feat!) and I had mixed up the day (I blame sleep-deprived breastfeeding brain!). I showed up to check in and they kindly mentioned I was there on the wrong day…uh-oh.

My reaction? TEARS. Lots and lots of free-flowing tears, of course. (New moms are so very fragile!) Yes, they saw us anyway, thank goodness! Thanks, Dr. Mani!

But, seriously, a quick confirmation is everything! Even now that doctors’ offices text you, it’s still quite possible to overlook a detail. Step 1: JUST DO IT! And reap the benefits of CALM!

After I published the book in paperback and Kindle (grab the book here ← if you don’t have it yet!), I knew I wanted to create an audio version, so in 2021, I set myself up in our quiet acoustic Airstream to record it…and, of course, I made a TikTok first ← enjoy!
